Eighteen months ago, Sony launched two new cameras with a shared industry first: a translucent mirror design that allowed full-time phase detect AF during shooting and video capture. The concept has since spread to almost all of the company's Alpha-mount lineup, and only one of those original duo continued as a current product. Today, it meets its successor, in the form of the Sony Alpha SLT-A57.
The Sony A57 moves beyond its predecessor with a redesigned body similar to that of the A65, and incorporates a number of features we've seen in more recent Translucent Mirror cameras. It also brings a few firsts for the series, and in some cases, for the camera market as a whole.

I'm new to shooting in RAW and I'm at the stage atm where I'm shooting in both RAW & JPEGs at the same time. I've tried a few RAW programs before Adobe Camera Raw and noticed that some of the untreated RAWS have some lens distortion when displayed in the programs. However in Adobe Camera Raw (used via PSE9) the lens distortion problem is never there and in fact the RAWS render with the same distortion correction as the camera's JPEG versions. Dan Burbank, Andre Kuipers & Don Pettit each completed another post-sleep session of the Reaction Self Test (Psychomotor Vigilance Self Test on the ISS) protocol, the 24th for Dan, the 17th for Andre and Don. The three crewmembers are performing their RST sleep shift session starting on 1/24 and every day through 2/2. [RST is done twice daily (after wakeup & before bedtime) for 3 days prior to the sleep shift, the day(s) of the sleep shift and 5 days following a sleep shift. The experiment consists of a 5-minute reaction time task that allows crewmembers to monitor the daily effects of fatigue on performance while on ISS. The experiment provides objective feedback on neurobehavioral changes in attention, psychomotor speed, state stability, and impulsivity while on ISS missions, particularly as they relate to changes in circadian rhythms, sleep restrictions, and extended work shifts.] In COL (Columbus Orbital Laboratory), Burbank configured the equipment for the ESA ICV (Integrated Cardiovascular) experiment and then began his 2nd (FD30) ICV Ambulatory Monitoring session, after preparing the Actiwatches, electrode sites, attaching the harness and donning the Cardiopres, assisted by Andre Kuipers. At ~7:55am EST, the CDR observed the initial 10-min rest period under quiet, restful conditions before going about his business. [ICV activities consist of two separate but related parts over a one-week time period: an ultrasound echo scan & an ambulatory monitoring session. Today, wearing electrodes, the HM2 (Holter Monitor 2) for recording ECG (Electrocardiogram) for 48 hours, the ESA Cardiopres to continuously monitor blood pressure for 24 hours, and two Actiwatches (hip/waist & ankle) for monitoring activity levels over 48 hours, Andre started the ambulatory monitoring part of the ICV assessment. At first I wanted to delete all the applications that it came with as I do with all portable hard drives, I used the security one since the drive has hardware encryption so they were drag and drop apps.
I really wanted to know if taking the case apart would allow someone to access my data. I didn’t know what hardware encryption meant.
